Scotty Rubin
ES 143 Engineering and Desgin Prof. Alnajjar My Email: srubin@hartford.edu

I am a freshman at the University of Hartford.
I am currently a part of the college of engineering, technology, and architecture,
and I am majoring in Acoustical Engineering and music with a
concentration in classical percussion.
My classical percussion teacher is Ben Toth. He focuses
on playing snare drum and marimba using the correct techniques to get the best
sound out of the instruments. I will also learn vibraphone and timpani in the
coming years.

I also am studying with Shane
Shanahan for the fall semester of 2011. Shane teaches middle eastern drumming using instruments such as a Riq which has metal jingles around the edge, or a Tar drum
which is like a frame drum.
The other half of my major involves the
science behind sound and music. I am excited to be a part of this major because
I get to enter the engineering field after college, and I also get to keep
performing music at the same time.
