Teaching Philosophy

I have been working with children since I was a sophomore in high school in everything from student teaching to teaching swim lessons to babysitting. I like working with children whether it’s in the classroom or outside of it. I’ve always liked children and I’ve always liked helping people. Becoming a teacher was always something I wanted to do. Although people may not appreciate teachers as much as they should, I always felt appreciated by the children. Nothing beats the look on a child’s face when they have accomplished something or discovered what they are good at. I find working with children to be such a rewarding experience.

When I was a senior in high school, my dream of becoming a teacher launched. I became a student teacher at the local middle school in a fifth and sixth grade classroom for two hours a day, every single day. That was one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to work individually with students, teach in front of a class, help students with disabilities, and correct homework assignments and quizzes. When the teacher was absent, she left lesson plans for me and I taught the class. I loved the job and I loved the students. It was so rewarding when the students thanked me or were so happy with themselves because of something they accomplished in the classroom as a result of my help.

I think that a teacher is someone who is often overlooked. They have to be patient and inspirational. Teachers hold the key to our future. They are the ones who educate our future adults. I think it is very important to give children a positive outlook and to give them hope that they can do whatever it is they wish to do if they work at it. My teachers helped me to reach my dreams and I want to help children reach theirs. They need inspiration and someone to motivate them and I want to be that person.
