Course Description

This course is the first semester of the two semester introductory biology course for biology majors. It is also one part of the math and science FIG (First Year Interest Groups). Most of the students enrolled in this course are also enrolled in CH 110 and M140.

Requirements

Attendance in this course is expected. From time to time, the instructors will include in discussions of information that is not available in the textbook and which may appear on the exams. In general, there are no make-up exams. If you have a valid medical or personal reason which will prevent you from attending the exam, you must inform the professor of this situation in advance of the date of the exam. The reason for absence will be submitted in writing as soon as you return to class. Your absence from 3 or more class and/or laboratory meetings may result in your withdrawal from the course.

Textbooks

Biology, fifth edition written by Raven and Johnson and published in 1999 by WCB/McGraw-Hill. Chapter assignments refer to this book. The references to the ESP CD ROM refer to the two Essential Study Partner CD ROMS that are included with the textbook. You should use these as supplements to the text and artwork in the textbook. You need to buy this book and read the assigned chapters before you come to class.
