DEAN SARA SUE METCREG

The Charles A. Cutter Library at the Mullins State University began as a small collection first housed in a building constructed in 1950. As Mullins University grew, so did the library. The development and expansion of the music department led to the creation of the J.S. Bach Music Library in 1980.

The Charles A. Cutter Library and the J.S. Bach Music Library have now grown to include over 1 million volumes of books and thousands of periodicals. The collections became too large for the existing buildings. The demands of the new information technologies strained the buildings' wiring. The comfort and accessibility of the libraries resources were not meeting the needs of the Mullins State University community and the state, these challenges are now being met. A new five-story state-of-the-art facility that will house both libraries is now being built. It will be completed in May 2000.
