| THE LIBRARIES |
The J.S. Bach Music Library and the Charles W. Cutter Library are located at the heart of the Mullins State University Campus. Built in 1950, the buildings are currently undergoing a complete reconstruction. Changing with the needs of the university community, the libraries are positioning themselves for the 21st Century. The Charles W. Cutter Library maintains a collection of over 1 million books. Journals, newspapers, magazines and other serial publications are also housed in the library. The J.S. Bach Music Library,s collection contains approximately 32,000 books, 48,000 scores, and 40,000 sound recordings. The library currently subscribes to 300 music periodicals. Students, faculty, and members of the performing arts community, may use these resources, including the 30 listening stations, and 15 audio visual rooms which are equipped with turntables, cd players, cassette decks and video player. The library also offers 2 midi work studios and 4 fully equipped classrooms. Digital information is managed by both the Music Library and the Cutter Library. Both libraries provide access to many databases and other forms of digital information. And, as a part of the library,s commitment to digital information delivery, the website of the Mullins State University Libraries has become a gateway to all of the databases, as well as the rest of the Internet. This means that for students, faculty, staff, and other members of the Mullins State University community, information is as close as their internet-connected computer. Librarians at Mullins State University enjoy faculty status. The entire professional library staff participates in LIFE (Library and Information Finding Essentials), the innovative program for undergraduate students launched in 1999 by Library Dean Sara Sue Metcreg. A one-credit required undergraduate course is offered each Fall by the library faculty. Graduate assistants from the Mullins State University School of Library Science work together with the library faculty to teach the essentials of library research. |
