Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Expected Outcomes
Upon completion of the program:
- The student will have the background necessary to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, the first step toward registration as a professional engineer. The department encourages students to take the FE examination.
- The successful graduate will be able to:
- apply mathematics, scientific principles, and relevant engineering tools to mechanical engineering practice;
- identify and formulate engineering problems related to mechanical and thermal systems;
- analyze and design static and moving mechanical devices, structure, and components;
- analyze and design thermal systems;
- evaluate noisy equipment; analyze and design quiet devices;
- make oral and written professional presentations;
- work as a member of an engineering team;
- identify, evaluate, formulate, and solve engineering problems in the area of his/her concentration; and
- understand the social and ethical responsibilities of a professional engineer.
- The qualified graduate will have the background necessary to pursue admission to graduate programs in mechanical engineering.
