Course Overview:

This web site was designed to keep you informed and updated on topics and materials used and covered in the Life Skills course here at Mabelle B. Avery Middle School.

Life Skills is one of three Unified Arts courses (the others, Technology & Art) offered to students here at MBA. Unified Arts courses operate on a trimester schedule with a three grade rotation.

Course Description:

The Life Skills course encompasses a combination of Health Education and Information Technology. Much of the course content will be presented and explored through technological sources such as our media center / library, various computer applications and the Internet.

Classroom Assignments & Activities:

Homework is sometimes assigned. The vast majority of course work; labs, lectures and activities, will take place in our classroom, the media center / library, and the computer lab.

What you will need for class:

1. Life Skills Notebook

We do not use a textbook, so it is necessary for you to obtain a notebook (3 ring binder preferably) to house the many handouts and other materials we will accumulate. You will be able to store it in my classroom when not assignments are given. Have notebook paper available in your notebook. Your notebook is a major grade for this course! Make sure that you file every required handout or page in your notebook. Keep it organized, and neat.

2. Using Pen and / or Pencil

Pens only with blue or black ink! All written work on handouts, tests and quizzes can be done in pen or pencil.

Course Grading Percentages:

Tests, Notebook Checks, Projects 50 %
Quizzes 25 %
Behavior-Attitude-Effort 15 %
Classroom & Homework Assignments 10%
