Unlike the

traditional

European

herding dogs,

the Kuvasz

looks far

more like a

sheep than it

does a wolf.

This characteristic

was highly

prized among

Hungarian

sheep herders.

When marauding

wolves came after

their flocks at

night, herders

could aim their

bows or guns

accurately at

the intruders,

with no fear of

accidentally

targeting their

prized dogs.
