The Human Services Program

Human services is a profession dedicated to interdisciplinary education and integrated services to clients. Help is focused not only on remediation of problems, but on meeting basic human needs and advocating for change in the systems that affect the lives of our clients.
This program prepares students to enter the helping professions. Students work with individuals across the lifespan who are experiencing normal developmental difficulties as well as specialized problems such as addictions, battering, or child abuse. Students can enter the field immediately upon graduation or enter graduate study in fields such as social work, counseling, or clinical psychology.
You will study a variety of disciplines, including counseling, psychology, sociology, and social work. A core of courses is taken by all students, and then each student selects a sub-field or concentration of interest. Each student also does two internships in local agencies or schools, selected by the student in cooperation with the advisor.
