Hartford Hands Vermont First Conference Loss, 78-65

West Hartford, CT - Freshman Charles Ford scored a career-high 30 points on nine of 11 shooting from the floor as the University of Hartford (6-12, 4-2) upset Vermont (14-4, 7-1), 78-65, in West Hartford on Sunday afternoon. The loss snaps a 12-game winning streak for the Catamounts and is the fourth win in the last six games for the Hawks.

Hartford trailed just once in the game, 2-0, and led by as many as 17 in the second half. Ford led the way with 30, including four of four from three-point land, and added three assists while committing no turnovers in the game. Hartford shot a season-high 54 percent from the floor including seven of 11 from three-point range. Vermont shot 41 percent from the floor and hit just five of 22 from behind the three-point line.

Junior Amous added 15 points and five rebounds for Hartford while junior Pierre Johnson had 13 points and nine rebounds. The Hawks had 72 of 78 points from their starting five and had a season-high eight blocks on the afternoon.

Vermont was led by freshman Taylor Coppenrath who had a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore T.J. Sorrentine had 10 points and four assists while Trevor Gaines had eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The Catamounts outrebounded the Hawks 37-30 including 19 offensive rebounds.

The Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Dartmouth.
