Unemployment is at an all time high and is making our economy look
terrible in a negative way. We as a society need’s to speak up as a
whole and start going for so the rate can decrease. It’s not only
adults that’s unemployed, its also the minority class and even college
students that have graduated from a four year university. I will
explain about the minority class percentages and some major facts about
unemployment and the different types there are. In addition my older
sister is actually unemployed at this time so I’ve asked her a few
questions, and I was actually surprised by most of her answers.
Unemployment is a huge deal because it’s left so many out of work and
if it keeps rising in percentage that means less unemployment checks
for each person. The question I ask myself is should the economy indeed
blame themselves for bring unemployed, to not having jobs at all.
What is Unemployment? “ In economics, unemployment refers to the
condition and extent of joblessness within an economy, and is measured
in terms of the unemployment rate, which is the number of unemployed
workers divided by the total civilian labor force. Hence, unemployment
is the condition of not having a job, often referred to as being "out
of work", or unemployed
The terms unemployment and unemployed are sometimes used to refer to
other inputs to production that are not being fully used, for example,
unemployed capital goods”.# (http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guide/20534/careers_and_job_hunting/what_is_unemployment.html)
There are five different kinds of unemployment that you need to know
about. “Seasonal unemployment is where you work a certain time of the
year, like hotels and in retail. Cyclical unemployment is when the
economy is in the need of low workforce, and which wages rise above the
equilibrium full unemployment level is the real wage unemployment.
Structural unemployment plays effect when the basic of a person isn’t.
Sufficient to meet his job responsibilities, and frictional
unemployment is when a person is out of one job but is looking for
another “.# (http://www.economywatch.com/unemployment/types/)
As you can see with there being so many types of unemployment it’s
likely for one to fall in the five categories. If we as an economy now
doesn’t take a stand or change for what’s right the unemployment rate
will continue to increase.
Unemployment is definitely real and I would like to give you a number
of facts on how it’s affecting more than one state. Since 2009 there
have been many twist and turns with the unemployment percentages and
here’s a couple facts about the topic. “ In April 2010, the
unemployment rate was 9.9 percent, or 15.3 million people“.#(http://www.urban.org/publications/412104.html) Men had especially high unemployment rates in 2009“.#(http://www.urban.org/publications/412104.html) “ Unemployment increased 119% between 2007-2009, unemployment for woman during that period increased 81%”.#(http://www.urban.org/publications/412104.html) “The unemployment rate for Sept. 2011 was actually 9.10% and in Jan. 9.5% leading to the 9.4% we now have in Oct“.#(http://www.inflexwetrust.com/2010/11/02/7-shocking-facts-about-minority-unemployment/ ) Just
based on the facts you can notice how serious unemployment actually is,
with all these people jobless how will they be able to survive.
Even though most of the adults are unemployed, you shouldn’t forget
about the minorities. “ Black unemployment is double the rate of white
unemployment”. “ In 2009 in Detroit it has the highest black
unemployment rate at 20.9% while the white percentage rate is at
13.8%”.#(http://www.inflexwetrust.com/2010/11/02/7-shocking-facts-about-minority-unemployment/) “ In Minneapolis black unemployment rates are 20.4% and the whites is only 6.6%”.#( CNN Money) In college CNN Money reports “ black unemployed college males who are 25 and older stood at 7.8% in August”.#( CNN Money)
“ For white males it was only 4%”. The data I’ve shown has clearly
proven that over most of the states that the black economy is
struggling doubling in unemployment more than the whites. ………
As I was sitting around the house I then realized that my sister was
unemployed so I wanted to ask her some questions about it. How does it
feel being unemployed? “ Its terrible all I do is sit around the house
with nothing to do, I’m beginning to become impatient”.#(Sister Derrielle 8607121049)
Is it difficult to find a job? “ No its not its very difficult to find
the job I would like, yes I can go make minimum wage but where will
that take me “#.(Sister Derrielle 8607121049)
Do you think the unemployment percentage will drop across the states? “
I’m positive it won’t because there will also be people with out jobs,
and honestly if you’re not qualified you won’t receive one“.#(Sister Derrielle 8607121049)
Hearing my sister speak I heard it in her voice that this was a serious
issue in the world because she too never thought she would be employed
but look where she’s at now.
With unemployment being such of a problem for years what can we
possibly do to decrease the rate, finding more jobs? As the economy and
nation having a voice we need to speak to the government and president
of the United States about the problem. Yes Barack knows about the
unemployment rate, but he is moving too slow about proving more jobs.
We can write letters to him send tapes and also hold strikes informing
him that we want no on to struggle. Just like November 4th when
everyone votes, we all need to stand up for what’s right because one
day we indeed can be in the position of a unemployed person.
With so many people unemployed the question I need to ask is should we
blame ourselves for being in this. College graduates even today can’t
find jobs but were they taking the right precautions in school. Did
they take advantage of that intern job or did they deny it to be with
friends. Were the partying every weekend or were they preparing for the
real world. Even with the adults that never made it to college did you
drop out or even give up on yourself. Did you get in trouble with the
law, now having a criminal background and its very likely you’ll find a
job with one of those. The last reason I thought of was just typically
people getting laid off because not most companies last very long. I
think about this all the time because yes the rate is so high, but
there has to reasons why.
Unemployment is indeed making our economy look terrible and looked at
in a negative way and the numbers need to decrease. I ask myself what
can be done to prevent unemployment even a little bit, should we blame
ourselves for the rate being so high. In addition as a society what we
need to do to grab the governments and presidents attention informing
them to create more jobs out there. The minority unemployment rate
caught my eyes with the blacks vs. the white ratio, and with my sister
being unemployed I decided to ask her a few questions and she’s dying
to work again. The unemployment rate can be brought, we as an economy
just needs to step up and speak to get what we want so we can decrease
that 9.4% unemployment rate.
