Sundeep Muppidi

Sundeep MuppidiDr. Sundeep R. Muppidi is the Associate Dean for Academic Planning and Curriculum for the College of Arts & Sciences, and Professor of Communication. He teaches courses in emerging media policy, theory & production, international communication and research methods. With a passion for technology, Dr. Muppidiā€™s research interests are in policy & diffusion of emerging media, international media theory and research, public policy in Asia, and communication for empowerment. His research has been published in national and international outlets including journals, books and consulting reports. He served as the Secretary General of the Asian Media Information and Communication Center in Singapore (AMIC) and is a consultant for national and international agencies including UNESCO in Paris and the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) in Singapore and Manila, Philippines.

In Asia, Dr. Muppidi has contributed to a number of policy discussions, studies and consultations on various policy issues in and about media/communication in Asia, including the Right to Information in South Asia (World Press Freedom Day in Maldives), media literacy (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Nepal), diffusion of social media in Asia, public service broadcasting in Asia, role of non profit organizations in community radio (India), digital radio diffusion in Asia, media issues in  ASEAN nations, and the state of journalism education in India, among others.

He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Media Asia journal and as an Associate Editor of the Asian Journal of Communication. He has edited the following books:

Dr. Muppidi is presently working on a documentary 'Canvas Hyderabad', on 'Artists of Hyderabad, India'.He also writes a weekly column for 'Telangana Times', an English newspaper published from Hyderabad, India. Some of his past projects include the Inscrutable Americans, a 35mm feature film for the international market (for which he was the co-screenplay writer and the associate director) and the documentary, 'Seeing the Scientific Light' , funded by a grant from NASA, the space agency.

Dr. Muppidi has a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Bowling Green State University, an M.A. in Communication & Television Production from the University of Hyderabad, and a B.S. in Biology from Osmania University. With two post-graduate diplomas—one in Journalism and Communication and another in Computer programming languages from institutions in India—he is a 2007 alumnus of the Management Development Program at Harvard University and a 2005-2006 fellow of the Journalism and Mass Communication Leadership Institute for Diversity of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition, he completed the Information and Communication Technologies Expert Training Program in Broadcasting Contents and Digital Convergence, from the Korean Communication Commission and Korean Internet Security Agency, in Seoul, South Korea.
