290: American Public Policy
To aid students in gaining a realistic understanding of
American policy-making processes sufficient for responsible political
participation,
To encourage students to develop critical perspectives on the
practices of American politics based on a commitments to particular ideas about
justice, democracy, and liberty,
To encourage students to develop a habit of critical
reflection on political news and analysis,
To help students recognize their stake in political life and
our consequent responsibilities to take positions and express our political
ideas, and
To foster students’ abilities to express and defend
political commitments orally and in writing.
