Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Expected Outcomes
Upon completion of the program:
- The successful graduate will be permitted to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (formerly known as the Engineer-in-Training [EIT]) examination, the first step toward registration as a professional engineer.
- The successful graduate will be able to:
- analyze, evaluate, and design structures and structural components;
- analyze, evaluate, and design water supply water pollution control systems and their components;
- analyze, evaluate, and design transportation system components;
- analyze soils and their properties;
- analyze, evaluate, and design certain foundation systems;
- analyze, evaluate, and design system components for utilization and conservation of water resources;
- interpret and use experimental and field data;
- understand the principles of surveying for accurate positioning and property description;
- work as a member and leader of an engineering team;
- make oral and written presentations of analyses and designs to supervisors, other engineers, potential and actual clients, and the general public; and
- understand the ethical requirements of the profession, the need for lifelong learning, and the impact of civil engineering activities on society.
- The qualified graduate will be prepared to attend and perform successfully in a graduate program in a specialty of choice in civil engineering.
