Karen Lucas Breda is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Hartford, CT, USA. She also serves as the director of Project Horizon, a community outreach initiative of the University of Hartford focusing on health, social and cultural advocacy.

Dr. Breda has a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Connecticut , in Storrs , Connecticut and baccalaureate and master's degrees in nursing from Boston University in Boston , Massachusetts . Her research interests include:
1) the critical political economy of health,
2) the work life of nurses, and participatory action research with service learning, social justice and advocacy projects.

She teaches courses on theory and research methods, complementary healing modalities, and health and social issues relevant to professional nurses.
