Objectives

  1. Understand the process of web site development and publishing, server types and technologies.

  2. Master basic web design tools and techniques

  3. Understand the issues involved in implementing advanced web components and technologies.

  4. Use a variety of tools, technologies and components for web page development.

  5. Appreciate the complexities web design and publication and evaluate related strategies.

  6. Become acquainted with advanced topics web-based presentation, data management and communications.

  7. Learn to customize web content for classroom or school environment.

  8. Critically evaluate web content and design

 

Schedule Schematic(subject to adjustments):

1 Introduction - Objectives, expectations. Resource lists, conventions and overview of site evaluation of criteria. Site definition and set up. FTP, remote and local system synchronization. Links, image maps, Spry widgets, Flash navigational components.

Assignment 1: Write a reflection/analysis on A Dao of Web Design. In class: develop preliminary criteria for site evaluation and site concept schematic and statement of purpose.

2 Networking Essentials - Understanding the primary building blocks of network communications and overview of interrelationships of networking technologies. Internetworking Terms and Acronyms. DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP, static versus dynamic addressing, public addresses and redirection.

Assignment 2 - Research of 10 sites with analysis. - Readings from resource page. In class collaborative preliminary site design workshop.

3 HTML Core Concepts, basic authoring applications. Graphics. Photoshop, Gimp, Fireworks, hexadecimal color coding. , technical, educational and aesthetic design considerations for websites.
