Assignment #1 - Case Study #1

This assignment requires that you complete a 5-6 page pager, double spaced, APA format. Be sure that your name appears on the paper (I suggest you put it in the header of the paper). Remember, spelling, grammar, etc. count. This assignment will be turned in to the professor as an attachment to email. Do not cut and paste your paper onto the email message - make it an attachment. Page limit is 5-6 pages.

Response Guidelines:

Evaluate this case study using a compare and contrast method. Read the case study and then determine what you would have done if you were a behaviorist and what you would have done if you were a cognitivist. You need not use a specific theory when evaluating this case. What you really need to consider is more of a big picture idea of the similarities and differences that a behaviorist and cognitivist would use in helping Jack Shaw solve his students problems with history. Do not get sidetracked by the administrative and departmental undercurrents in the case study, they should not be a part of your answer.

This case was taken from: Jackson, D. L., & Ormrod, J. E. (1998). Case Studies: Applying Educational Psychology. Upper Saddle River, NJ: Merrill.

Assignment #2

Choose a weekly topic from the syllabus, including the journal article.

Facilitate the discussion for that week This will include, but not be limited to:

* Posting the lead off question no earlier than Tuesday morning (Previous week's discussion ends on Monday night.)
* Keeping the conversation going and on track
* Posting questions, as needed, to explore the subject in depth
* Moderating the discussion to ensure that everyone participates
* Grading everyone's participation according to the rubric (found in the Grading section of this syllabus) and submitting those grades to the instructor, electronically as an Email attachment, not later than the Thursday following the discussion week (this is 10 days after posting your first question). Use the Excel Spreadsheet, found on the class Blackboard, on the Assignments page, to log and record the grades, or use the hyperlinks below to download the gradesheet. These grades will only be seen by the instructor, and he will use them to corroborate his observations of that week's discussion participation.
