After the departure of Jaromír Jágr from the Rangers to play in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Drury was named the 25th captain in Rangers history on October 3, 2008. Drury is only the second American-born captain in team history. This makes Drury one of five currently active NHL players to be a captain of two different NHL teams, as he also captained the Buffalo Sabres. The players sharing this designation are Rob Blake, Chris Pronger, Michael Peca and former teammate Adam Foote, who took over captaincy of the Colorado Avalanche after Joe Sakic retired before the 2009-10 season. |
| Dubinsky scored his first NHL goal against Marc-André Fleury on November 8, 2007 in a 4-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Dubinsky was the 3rd star of the game. Much of the season was spent centering the Rangers' first forward line with Jaromír Jágr and Sean Avery. He was one of sixteen rookies selected to participate in the 2008 YoungStars competition at the 56th NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta. He scored two goals and one assist and was named YoungStars Most Valuable Player. Dubinsky scored his first career playoff goal in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the New Jersey Devils on April 13, 2008.His successful rookie season was marked on April 4, 2008 when Dubinsky was awarded the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award for the 2007-08 season and "Rookie of the Year" for the Rangers as voted by his teammates. |

On February 13, 2008, Lundqvist signed a six-year contract with the Rangers worth $41.25 million, averaging $6.875 million a season. This made him the highest paid goaltender in the NHL on average over the length of his contract. On February 24, 2008, Lundqvist became the first Rangers goaltender to record eight shutouts in a single season since Eddie Giacomin in 1970–71. On March 6, 2008, Lundqvist recorded his 30th win of the season, making him just the second goaltender, along with Ron Hextall, to record at least 30 wins in each of his first three NHL seasons. On March 9, 2008, Lundqvist became the first Rangers goaltender to record 9 shutouts in a season since Eddie Giacomin's 1966–67 campaign in a 1-0 win against the Boston Bruins. |

Ten members of the New York Rangers got the opportunity to see another side of show business on Wednesday, as they appeared together on "Late Show with David Letterman" in front of a live studio audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater. The players were there to unveil Letterman's nightly "Top Ten" list, with each player delivering a line in Letterman's countdown. The list, created by Letterman and his writing staff, was titled "Top Ten Things Never Before Spoken by a Hockey Player". |
