The Future of Television
- HDVT
- High Definition Television enhances the quality of the picture
on your screen as well as the quality of the sound. HDTV will
eventually allow the connectivity of computers to televisions.
- Larger and wider pictures
- Multi-channel digital quality sounds
- DSS
- Digital Satelite Systems is becoming the next step in
Television after Cable TV. More channels can be viewed through DSS than
through the coaxial cable of Cable-TV. Using a pure digital
signal through MPEG-2 standard video compression there is room for
interactivity, and it is able to support video on demand and other
interactive possibilites.
- V-Chip
- The Violence Chip is a new chip that will be installed in all
television sets from this point on as mandated by the
Telecommunications Act of 1996. This programable chip, will allow
parents when buying their television sets to be able to program in
certain criteria of the programs they do not want to see, or want their
children to see. Such criteria includes voilence, sex, or
inappropriate language. Programs that have been predetermined of
having any of these attributes will be blocked out on the television
set.
- This called for a rating system which President Clinton
mandated as a way to code all the programs on television to easily
assist the v-chip.
